Thayer Coggin was a World War II veteran who started his own furniture company in 1953 with a straightforward idea: build modern furniture that would still be worth owning in fifty years. The company has been running continuously ever since, from the same city in High Point, North Carolina.
What turned it into a landmark was the partnership with Milo Baughman, which ran for more than fifty years. Baughman designed some of the most recognisable American mid-century modern furniture ever made, and Thayer Coggin built it — the two names are effectively inseparable in the history of the style. Many of those original designs are still in production today, and Thayer Coggin remains their exclusive maker.
Everything upholstered is bench made and cut to order. On a sectional, every module is upholstered by the same craftsperson so the pieces match when they arrive. Hundreds of fabrics and leathers are on offer, wood, metal and acrylic finishes are specified separately, and if you have your own material in mind the factory will work with it.
Made-to-order usually means waiting. Their Express Lane range is the exception — a curated group of pieces in selected fabrics and leathers, built to a four-week production schedule.
